Barcode/Code
: This field is able to accept a patron’s code (eg. SMITHJA), a patron’s barcode (eg. 1234567890), an item’s BRN (eg. 021353BML) or an item’s BRN and copy number (eg. 021353BML/001). If a user does not have the specific information to enter the required code, the search facilities at the top of the screen will enable the user to find the specific patron/item (Find Patron, Find Item). This search can be restricted by making a selection from the drop-down menu options of Returns Only, Issues Only or Reservations. The default setting of All searches patron and item details for the code that has been entered. From this screen, there is a link to add a patron on-the-fly (once the patron has been added, the borrow screen will re-appear) and it is also possible to add a barcode for a specific item.Find Patron: Clicking the Find Patron link will pop-up another window where a user is able to enter the full or part surname for the patron they wish to find (eg. can type Smith or Smi). Based on the text entered, a list of results that begin with the entered text eg. smi may begin with Smids and end with Smithson, whereas Smith may begin with Smith and end with Smithson. Once the desired patron has been found, click on the name and hit the Select button.
Find Item: Uses the OPAC search facility, click find item and an All Fields Search box will appear for the user to enter text. Once the required item has been found, click Select to register the Accession Number on the previous screen.
Add Patron: This option is a direct link to Add Patron (from the Circulation > Patron Details) and will return you to the Borrow/Return screen.
Add Barcode: if a book does not possess a barcode, a barcode can be attached from this screen.
Reset: This function clears all data from the Issues Returns and Reservations screen.
Mode: Making a selection from the drop-down menu options of Returns Only, Issues Only or Reservations will restrict the processing of an item to the selected function. The default setting will allow Issues and Returns to be automatically processed on the one screen. By selecting Returns only, any attempt to process an Issue will result in an error message being displayed and the process aborted. The Reservations option indicates that the next item entered will be a Reservation against the active patron.
Mute Alarms: Checking the mute Alarms Field will suppress the display of any Alert Notices (Circulation > Maintenance Options > Patron Details) associated with the patron.
