Simple Search
: All fields search, based on boolean and logic. Configuration of search options can be modified from the Control Panel (Controls > OPAC Controls > Control Parameters). Using Simple Search from within LMSi provides the user with the same results and functionality as a patron search using the OPAC search screen.Example 1: Tree - This will display all items that contain the word Tree within any associated fields.
Example 2: Magic Tree - This will display only all items that contain the words Magic and Tree within any associated fields. An item with an author such as John Trees and the title Magic For Children will be displayed.
Example 3: Tree* - This will display all keyword that begin with the letters tree.
Example 4: Magic and Tree - This will display all items that contain the keywords Magic and Tree to display the same results as Example 2, however superfluous punctuation words are automatically removed. Other such words include or, the, at, in, a, an and all other non-numeric or alphabetic characters (eg. /?#@&%()“”) etc.
Example 5: Australia - If a user enters a keyword that will generate an excessive number of Items, the user is provided with a selection of Key Terms that begin with the entered term. A user can then select one of these from the list to refine their search.
Example 6: Australising - If a user accidentally mis-spells a word or there are no matching Keyterms, the system assumes smart-mode searching. This mode removes letters from the end of the word/phrase until one or more matching Key Terms are found. If only one matching Key Term is found, the results of the search will be displayed, otherwise the user is able to select from a list.
Search Strategy: Searches are based on the same examples and logic outlined within Simple Search, however searches can be restricted to a user-specified field (ie. Title, Author, Series, Subject and Dewey). The results will display extended information relating to the item. If a user clicks on the Copy Details link, a window will pop-up and display copy details and Loan status information. General configuration of search options can be modified from the Control Panel (Controls > OPAC Controls > Control Parameters). LMSi is able to further configure the Advanced search to be restricted to a range of Site Codes or GMD values.
